MoHS recommends increasing momentum for prevention of COVID-19

Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe presided over the daily meeting (29/2020) on prevention of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) at his office in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

At the meeting, the minister discussed the requirement of extraordinary measures against the deadly COVID-19 while the disease is rapidly spreading in some countries although Myanmar is still exempt from it.

He added the health authorities are taking priority on preventive measures with the readiness of oxygen machines and protective gears, disaster response plans, coordination of relevant ministries and State/Region governments.

The Union Minister also advised not to organize big festivals as much as possible and make preparations for possible consequences from holding the events.

The MoHS has raised awareness to avoid public areas when someone is suffering any symptoms of fever, cough, sneeze and any form of respiratory disease and to follow instructions for personal hygiene habits.

Officials at the meeting also discussed daily updated situation reports of WHO, conditions of persons under investigation, preventative and control measures at Mann Shwe Set Taw pagoda festival, laboratory tests on specimens of quarantined patients, training programmes for the members of Myanmar Red Cross Society and civil and philanthropic organizations, preparations in Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw and the needs of medical items at the hospitals.
