UNION Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe held a videoconference with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Mr Lee Sang-hwa, at 10 am yesterday.
They discussed extending the time for repatriating Myanmar workers in South Korea, arranging relief flights for Myanmar workers in ROK who wish to return to Myanmar, increasing the number of EPS admitted Myanmar migrant workers from 1,000 to 7,000, recalling experienced and skilled Myanmar workers back to South Korea as a priority when possible, cooperating for preliminary examinations for EPS during COVID-19 period, coordinating flights for transporting EPS skilled workers, and discovering technological solutions to resolve issues between employers and employees in the garment industry caused by the current pandemic.
They also discussed capacity building initiatives, the inability to pay social security benefits due to not having procured unemployment statistics but the government’s efforts to resolve such matters between workers and employers, and reducing taxation during the pandemic.
Present at the meeting were Deputy Minister U Myint Kyaing, the permanent secretary, director-general, and other officials.
